HALLOSUMEDANG – Sumedang Regency has once again achieved national recognition by winning the 2024 Bhumandala Award, organized by the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG).
This prestigious award was presented to Sumedang in the category of Regency-Level Local Government with the title ‘Ariti’ for Best Toponym Management.
The award was handed directly by the Deputy for Thematic Geospatial Information, Dr. Antonius Bambang Wijanarto, at the Grand Studio Metro TV, Jakarta, on Monday evening (4/11/2024).
Sumedang was recognized for its successful use of geospatial information, particularly in ensuring the accuracy of village/subdistrict boundary data.
This information has been utilized to support governance, enhance public services, and aid in the establishment of more effective spatial-based development policies.
Sumedang’s Acting Regent, Yudia Ramli, expressed gratitude and pride in the achievement.
“This award is the result of collaborative hard work in leveraging geospatial technology to create a more integrated regional development,” Yudia stated.
He hopes to continue innovating to realize improved regional governance and services for the community.
“We will keep innovating to achieve better territorial governance, aiming to provide the best service to the people,” he added.
Yudia also mentioned that the Bhumandala Award serves as concrete proof of how Sumedang utilizes technology to optimize development planning.
He hopes this award will set an example for other regions in managing spatial information comprehensively and accurately.
Meanwhile, BIG’s Head, Muh. Aris Marfai, explained that the Bhumandala Award has reached its tenth installment since it was first introduced in 2014.
“The selection process for this award is stringent, covering evaluations of geospatial information network performance, toponym management, as well as thematic geospatial information and village/subdistrict boundary management,” he explained.
This award is given as an extraordinary recognition to ministries, agencies, or local governments that excel in managing geospatial information within their respective areas.
“This year, several ministry, agency, and regional leaders also received the Bhumandala Nawasena, or award for ‘Best Newcomer.’ The term Nawasena comes from Sanskrit, meaning ‘bright future’,” he concluded.
