HALLOSUMEDANG – Sumedang Regency Secretary, Tuti Ruswati, led the Cisaar Valley-Jatigede Geopark Development Meeting held in the PPS Secretary’s Meeting Room on Monday, November 4, 2024. The meeting featured Prof. Mega Fatimah Rosana, Chair of the Expert Council of the Indonesian National Geopark Committee and Dean of the Faculty of Geological Engineering at Padjadjaran University, as the main speaker.

In her remarks, Tuti Ruswati explained that Prof. Mega, a member of the national assessment team for geoparks, will assist the Sumedang Regency Government in developing the Cisaar Valley Geopark towards becoming a National Geopark.

“Recently, Sumedang Regency officially launched the Cisaar Valley Jatigede Geopark. Naturally, to gain recognition as a National Geopark, there are several studies that need to be completed. For this reason, we are involving experts with deep knowledge of biodiversity, geology, and cultural diversity,” Tuti explained.

Tuti went on to say that Unpad will soon conduct a detailed study on the potential of the Cisaar Valley Jatigede Geopark.

“We hope that this study will help us identify specific areas with development potential,” Tuti stated.

She also expressed her hope that the Geopark’s existence will enhance the local economy by empowering the surrounding communities.

“The essence of this initiative is to improve the region’s competitiveness by empowering local residents, based on the unique potential of each district. This is expected to increase tourist visits and ultimately benefit the community’s economy,” she added.

Meanwhile, Prof. Mega Fatimah Rosana expressed her eagerness to contribute to establishing the Cisaar Valley Jatigede Geopark as a National Geopark.
