HALLOSUMEDANG – Sumedang, a city famous for its tofu, is now in the spotlight of the paragliding world. The Regional Secretary of West Java Province, Herman Suryatman, gave high praise for the organization of the West Java Paragliding Championship 2024. He believes that this event is not only a showcase for athletes but also a smart strategy to boost Sumedang’s competitiveness in sports and tourism.

“This is a brilliant step! In addition to honing the skills of paragliding athletes, this championship also acts as a magnet for tourists to visit Sumedang,” said the West Java Regional Secretary at the opening of the event, which coincided with the Inter-Village Sports Competition (Tarkam) and the Sumedang Creative Festival at the Sumedang Town Square, Monday (30/9).

He also appreciated the holding of three events simultaneously. “It’s like killing two birds with one stone. This is a smart way to develop the talents of Sumedang athletes, especially in paragliding, while increasing the tourism potential of the region,” he said.

The West Java Regional Secretary also highlighted the important role of the Cisumdawu Toll Road, which has reduced travel time from Jakarta and Bandung to only about an hour. “This is truly extraordinary! Access from Jakarta to Sumedang is now very fast. Coupled with the operational Kertajati International Airport, Sumedang is becoming increasingly strategic as a prime tourist destination,” he added.

In addition to accessibility, the Regional Secretary also emphasized the importance of tourist attractions, such as the world-class cross-country paragliding championship, which is participated by athletes from various countries. “This championship is a major attraction for Sumedang,” he said.

With full support from the West Java Provincial Government and extensive media coverage, Herman hopes that this event will become even more well-known, not only in Sumedang but also nationally and internationally.

“I am confident that Sumedang will become a prime tourist destination in West Java. This is a golden opportunity that must be utilized to the fullest,” he concluded.
