HALLOSUMEDANG – As the rainy season begins, often accompanied by potential disasters, Acting Regent of Sumedang, Yudia Ramli, has called on the community to remain vigilant and uphold the spirit of cooperation to tackle any challenges that may arise.

In his statement, Yudia emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the community as a proactive measure to minimize the impact of potential disasters.

“We should treat disasters as friends, meaning we should not shy away but face them together. In Sumedang, there are four types of disasters that require serious attention. These are not only the responsibility of the government but also the shared responsibility of all elements of society,” Yudia stated during his visit to the landslide site in Nagarawangi Village, Rancakalong Subdistrict, on Wednesday (December 4, 2024).

He highlighted hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods and landslides, as major concerns during periods of heavy rainfall. Support from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) demonstrates that disaster management is not only a local priority but also a national one.

“We have received substantial support from BNPB, including funding and equipment, to address hydrometeorological disasters. However, we still need community cooperation to ensure continuous vigilance and timely response,” he added.

Yudia also encouraged the community to revive the Satali (Saling Tanglingakeun) program, a local initiative emphasizing solidarity and mutual assistance among the people of Sumedang. This program aims to strengthen social bonds and support disaster-affected communities.

He expressed his gratitude to village residents who are always proactive in organizing community service and emergency actions when disasters occur.

“I extend my appreciation to the community, village officials, and BPBD teams who remain alert and responsive. This is a clear example of synergy between the public, subdistrict officials, and the regional government,” he said.

Furthermore, Yudia underlined the importance of mental and physical readiness in dealing with disasters, both at the village and district levels.

“We must work together to solve disaster-related issues collectively. With strong collaboration, efforts can be more effective and efficient,” he noted.

According to Yudia, the regional government, together with the DPRD and related agencies, continues to strengthen disaster mitigation efforts. These include community education, infrastructure reinforcement, and emergency response planning.

“Don’t attempt to tackle problems alone. Cooperation and synergy are essential. By working together, Sumedang can set an example as a region prepared to face the rainy season and the challenges it brings,” he concluded.
